The bun hairstyle has remained a firm wedding favorite thanks to its elegant and simple appearance. From a messy undone look, to a sleek and neat ballerina bun, your hair can be styled in a way to suit your face, your wedding dress and personality. Most buns can be worn at the nape of the neck or to the side depending upon your preference. Incorporate your tiara or jeweled slides into any hair rehearsals to ensure they complement the finished bun style.

Messy Bun

If you are having a beach wedding, or would like your hairstyle to remain relaxed, opt for a low messy bun. This style works particularly well on long or thick hair and is simple to achieve. Use a curling iron to create waves if your hair is straight to give it more texture.

Tie your hair into low ponytail and twist into a bun shape. Use bobby pins to pin your bun in position. Tease the bun with your fingers and pull out small strands. This style should not look too neat or contrived, but should appear natural and laid back.

Neat Bun

A classic neat bun is a timeless hairstyle that will not date. Use a serum to tame loose fly-away pieces of hair before you begin. If your hair is naturally wavy or curly, you may wish to straighten it first using a flat iron.

Pull your hair into a low ponytail at the nape of your neck, leaving any face-framing sections or bangs loose at the front. Twist the ponytail into a tight bun and secure using bobby pins. Finish with a high-gloss hairspray for a shiny and sleek finish.

Looped Bun

Choose a looped bun if you would like your wedding hairstyle to appear more intricate. This style consists of lots of loops of hair pinned to the scalp in a bun shape. To try the look yourself, put your hair into a low ponytail.

Split the ponytail into eight equal sections. This can be tricky, so ask a friend to help you. Wrap each section of hair around your finger and pin it into a loop, securing with bobby pins. Although the finished result appears complex, this style is achievable without the assistance of a professional stylist.

Braided Bun

Braided buns have been seen on fashion catwalks around the world and are an elegant option for brides. This polished, yet sleek look can be achieved by putting the hair into a low ponytail and then braiding. Twist the braid around the base of the ponytail and pin into position. Add extra wedding day sparkle by inserting jewels or flowers around your braided bun.
