Having your watchband fit correctly is not just a matter of style but also comfort. While it’s easy to adjust a rubber or leather watchband, metal watchbands require the removal of links in the band in order to shorten them. You can shorten your Nixon metal watchband using basic household tools. Just take care to remove links carefully so that you do not scratch the casing of the watch.

Put the watch on your wrist and close the clasp. Pinch the band so that the watch fits comfortably on your wrist. The number of links held in the pinch is the number of links that need to be removed.

Turn the watch over. Look for arrows etched into the underside of some of the links. These indicate removable links.

Push a pin into the hole on the side of a marked link. Push the pin in the direction in which the arrow is pointing. Pull the pin out of the opposite side with needle-nose pliers. Repeat this process on the other side of the link. Remove the link from the band.

Continue the process described above until you have removed the necessary number of links.

Realign the band ends. Slide the holding pins into the slots on the link to secure the two ends together. Put on the watch and snap the clasp shut.
