Contrary to what many grandparents might think, it is not hard to buy gifts for a 14-year-old boy. Boys this age have definite ideas of what they like and don't like. In fact, it is a good idea to ask for a list of ideas if you are going to buy a present for a 14-year-old boy. Even if you don't want to or can't ask, there are still things you can buy that are almost sure to please him.
Most 14-year-old boys love music. They have favorite bands and genres. Purchase the latest CD of your boy's favorite band. If you aren't sure what he likes, don't even try to guess. Ask his parents, or buy him an iTunes card if he has an iPod so he can download his favorite songs himself. Another idea for that boy who already has an iPod is to purchase him a set of speakers for his iPod, so he can listen to his songs without having to use headphones.

Purchase the boy something that relates to his hobbies. If he plays the guitar, for example, try a box of expensive picks. If he collects something, such as souvenir baseballs, go online and see if you can find him one that will complete his collection. Good places for unique collectibles are eBay and Craigslist (see links in the Resource section below).
Let's face it: Today's teenagers are plugged in. Many have the latest gadgets and gizmos. If the 14-year-old boy in your life does not have the latest gadget, chances are you know about it. Pool your money together with other relatives and friends, and purchase him that longed-for iPhone. Or, if he has one already, buy him a leather case for it. Most 14-year-old boys also love video games. Purchase the latest video game for his player, or an accessory such as wireless headphone or a gaming card. Xbox, for example, sells cards that are worth three months of online play.
Money and gift cards
If you were to ask a 14-year-old boy what his favorite gifts are, he would more than likely say "money." This is because most boys this age are saving up their money for some type of thing that they want. These boys would simply prefer to pick out their own gifts. If you are afraid the 14-year-old boy in your life will squander his money, consider purchasing a gift card instead. If you want him to purchase new clothes, for example, get him a gift card to a department store that does not sell any type of video games or electronic equipment.
