Wavy hair can look tousled and relaxed, but the look can quickly go from laid back to messy if your wavy hair develops frizz. Hair that is porous develops frizz more easily than hair that is in good condition because it draws in more moisture from the air. The moisture that causes frizz can come from naturally humid outdoor air or from kitchens, restrooms and other damp indoor areas, so even if you don't expect humidity, it's best to be prepared. Treating your hair kindly can reduce damage and minimize the frizz that develops in wavy hair.

Trim your hair regularly. Removing damaged ends is the easiest way to keep wavy hair looking its best. Long hair can often go two months without a trim, but the shorter your style the more frequently you will need a trim. If you use chemical processes on your hair or frequently heat style, you won't be able to wait as long between trims.

Wash your hair with a shampoo containing silicone. These shampoos are typically labeled for curly hair or as smoothing formulas. Silicone smooths the hair shaft, preventing excess moisture from entering the cuticle. Excess moisture causes the hair shaft to swell, which leads to frizz.

Apply conditioner to the ends of your hair and gradually work it up toward the scalp. Hair by Joey, a Seattle salon, suggests a formula with soy protein. Use your fingers to detangle your hair gently as you work the conditioner through the ends. The less you have to handle your hair while styling the easier it is to avoid frizz.

Squeeze any excess moisture from your hair with a towel after you rinse the conditioner out, rather than rubbing your hair vigorously to dry. Twisting or wrapping wavy hair in a towel encourages frizz.

Apply a gel or mousse styling product to your hair before blow drying to help smooth the hair shaft and prevent frizz from developing.

Dry your hair with a diffuser attachment on the hairdryer. A diffuser is ideal for wavy hair because it helps create lift and body in the hair without over drying it. Over drying wavy hair leads to frizz.

Style your hair gently and finish your look with a spritz of hairspray. Hairspray will help hold your style and reduce frizz by coating the strands. Be wary of using too much hairspray, which creates a stiff and unflattering look.

Deep condition your wavy hair once a week, allowing the conditioner to soak into your hair for 10 minutes before rinsing.
