Techno is a style of electronically manipulated music most often associated with large dance parties, or raves. The techno or rave subculture has a style all its own, with clothing chosen to be comfortable and loose to make it easy to dance (and sweat) for many hours. Choosing the right clothing and accessories will make certain you fit right in at a techno-themed dance.
Wear a bright or neon-colored T-shirt made of breathable fabric. Women should wear tight T-shirts or spaghetti-strap tank tops, while men can wear a looser-fitting T-shirt or tank top (most men take their shirts off while dancing at a techno-themed party anyway). Shirts with doctored corporate logos or popular children's characters on the front are particularly popular at a rave.
Dress in loose, baggy cargo pants that stop at your ankle. This style of pants is popular at techno-themed parties because it doesn’t constrict or trip you during the many hours of dancing. Wear mismatching fabrics, colors and patterns in bright colors to glow under the black lights popular at techno-themed parties.
Wear comfortable, bright sneakers that will be comfortable to dance in for hours at a time. Some techno enthusiasts wear large moon boots, along with metallic silver accessories, rubber or vinyl clothes and neon colors for a more spacey effect.
Accessorize with glow necklaces, bright hair accessories, furry hats and loud plastic bangles, for both men and women. Accessories usually meant for children are popular at techno raves–furry animal backpacks, a pacifier hanging on a necklace, lollipops, and children’s’ cartoon and TV characters.
Dye your hair a bright, loud color, such as orange or blue. Men can spike their hair using a strong hair spray or holding gel, while women should wear their hair in pigtails or another young hairstyle or wear a bright, neon wig.
Dust any exposed skin with body glitter. Women can also wear bright or metallic-colored eye shadow and face powder. Sparkly, bright things are popular at techno dances.
Carry a bottle of water at all times. This will complete the look and keep you hydrated during those long hours of dancing and sweating. You can also carry a soft, stuffed animal.
