Lauren Silva is a graphic designer on the digital team at FOX. If you follow any of FOX's primetime shows on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter (think: New Girl, Bob's Burgers and Making History), you've seen her work! Today, she talks about her self-care routine, including the organic facial cleanser she uses 'til there's not a drop left, the prettiest shade of orange nail polish, and the book that's currently taken up residence on her bedside table.
What's your daily skin care routine?
In the evening, I remove any makeup with the micellar water, then I alternate between exfoliating with Alba Botanica Enzyme Scrub or a gentle and hydrating cleanse with Pai Camellia & Rose Gentle Hydrating Cleanser. Once my skin is clean, I use BioDerma SensiBio Eye under-eye gel and then two drops of RMS beauty oil and an occasional drop of Odacite Acai Rose Serum.
I just discovered Herbivore, so some of their products may be joining my daily routine soon!
What makeup do you usually wear?
A few months ago, I decided to really clean up my whole beauty routine — I literally threw away everything I had and started over. In addition to looking for cleaner ingredients, I just wanted to keep it all simple and basic. I start with RMS "Un" Cover-Up Concealer under my eyes and on any blemishes. After that, I dust a layer of RMS Tinted "Un" Powder all over and a touch of Alima Pure Semi Matte Blush. For my eyes, I use Lily Lolo Laid Bare Eye Palette, Well People Expressionist Mascara and an Alima Pure Eyebrow Pencil. On my lips, I either use Burt's Bees Pomegranate Oil Lip Balm or a Fresh Sugar Lip Tinted Balm.
How do you style your hair most days?
Most days, I let it air dry, then I make loose waves with a curling wand. To have a more polished look, I use Davines Love Hair Smoother to tame any flyaway hairs. If I want the full beach look, I'll use Herbivore Sea Mist.
What haircare products do you use?
I use Alba Botanica Coconut Milk shampoo and conditioner. It's free of harsh chemicals, but is hydrating enough for my hair and scalp (which tend to dry out easily). I also use the Scalpmaster Shampoo Brush. It is the best thing I've ever bought from Amazon.
What's your go-to shade of nail polish?
Are there any DIY beauty treatments you love?
I keep an aloe plant that I'll occasionally pull a leaf off of. I use the gel inside the leaf to sooth the skin on my face, neck, chest and arms, especially if I've been spending time in the sun.
What's the last beauty product you used 'til there was nothing left?
Can you tell us a little bit about what you do? What's it like working at Fox?
I'm a graphic designer for the digital team at Fox. This means I make graphics that go up on the social media accounts of our primetime shows. It's definitely fun every morning when I drive onto the lot and immediately see TV and film sets. You're just surrounded by creativity all day.
A lot of our work is fun, but it can get crazy leading up the the launch of a new show or a new season. So many people put a lot of hard work into each show, so you don't want to be a weak link in the chain. We're relaunching Prison Break right now, and everyone has been really excited to create tons of new art that also pays homage to the original run of the show.
What's your favorite day trip to take when you want to escape Los Angeles?
It's still in L.A. county, but I love spending the day in Malibu. Driving up the coast, exploring the canyons, checking out different beaches — I'll never grow tired of that.
One of the things I love most about L.A. is that if I want to see a forest, I can spend the day up in the Angeles National Forest. If I want to spend a day in the desert, I can drive to Palm Springs. It's awesome having those options.
What's one thing you're currently obsessed with?
This recipe for perfectly baked chicken breasts (it really is perfect).
Do you have a regular fitness routine?
I take a yoga class every Saturday and sometimes on Wednesdays (I love Danielle Chebabi's classes at Laughing Frog Yoga). I also love hiking, but don't get out to do that as much as I should.
What's one thing you do every day that makes you feel great?
At some point every day, I remind myself to stop and take a few really deep breaths. It's something I've picked up from yoga and it just makes me feel more focused and ready to take on the world.
What are you reading right now?
I just started Shantaram.
When do you feel most comfortable in your own skin?
Any time I'm with my husband, Cody. He tells me every day (usually multiple times a day) how much he loves me and how beautiful I am.
How would you describe your approach to beauty?
Just keep it simple and natural.
