Political watch parties are exciting events where supporters gather as the votes are counted. What to wear to these events is determined greatly by what type of party is being held. From formal events to casual gatherings, sometimes the most important accessory is the button bearing the image of your hopeful candidate.
Casual Events
At casual parties, there really is no right or wrong when it comes to choosing something to wear. Jeans and political T-shirts are just as appropriate as a pair of khaki pants and polo shirts. A fun way to dress up the event is to wear politically themed accessories such as Lincoln style red, white and blue top hats and campaign buttons bearing the likeness of your favorite candidate.
Dinners
Political watch dinner parties are often a bit dressier than casual parties, however most do not require black tie attire. The theme for most politically based dinner parties is typically business attire or business casual. For ladies, a cocktail dress and dress pumps work well, while for men a suit and tie are typically the most appropriate choice. Other choices for ladies include an elegant pant suit, or pencil skirts and long sleeve blouses. Tweed or cropped jackets worn over top of a knee length skirt can also add a look of style and sophistication while keeping in line with the professionalism of the event.
Formal Events
Formal watch party events require a bit more effort when it comes to selecting the right attire. Formal events almost always require a tuxedo for men and evening gown for women. For men, keeping with the classic look is key. Tuxes should consist of a white dress shirt, paired with a dinner jacket, dress trousers and black tie. In the winter, tuxes should be topped with a dress style over coat that is black, navy or dark gray. For ladies, a formal cocktail dress matched with simple, yet elegant accessories such as earrings and a necklace make an excellent choice. It is best, however to choose dresses that are knee length or longer as mini dresses may not keep in line with the professionalism of the event.
