Road Trip Gift Bag Ideas

by Serena Spinello ; Updated September 28, 2017

Since road trips can be long and may get boring after a while, send off your travelers with gift bags that include an assortment of goodies to help keep everyone occupied and happy. The best gift bags contain items specific to the interests and/or age of those saying "Adios!"

Activities and Ideas for Passing Time

Road-trip gift bags help to entertain travelers during their time on the road. Many dollar stores, craft stores, bookstores and party supply shops have numerous budget-friendly items you can include in the bags. Coloring books, word searches, crossword puzzles, trivia games, Mad Libs, notebooks, sketchbooks and other activity books make for ideal additions. Pack crayons, pencils, stickers and other items such as stamps and postcards. Decks of cards and other card games help pass the time in hotel rooms. A lot of board games also are available in travel versions.

Treats to Keep Everyone Happy

Put different snacks and drinks in each person's bag. In addition to chips, pretzels, crackers, granola bars and cookies, add dried fruit and nuts, as you won't have to worry about them going bad. Juice boxes, soda and other small beverages are worth including.

Destination-Themed Gift Bags

Gift bags can be centered on the travelers' final destination. For example, if you're going to a beach or water park, include sunscreen, lip balm, flip-flops, water bottle, shovels, pails and water toys. If you're going sightseeing or to a historic area, include books about your destination and the history. You may include a small photo album, journal or scrapbook so everyone can document their memories and have a keepsake from the excursion.
