Earrings are very popular because they can help enhance your overall look. Earrings can make a woman look or feel more feminine. But earrings come in all different styles and shapes; even if one size fits all, one size doesn't flatter all. You should carefully choose earrings that fit your face shape because only some styles will flatter you.

Use a mirror to determine your face shape: round, oval, square, heart-shaped, inverted triangle or oblong.

Create the illusion of a longer face if your face is round. It may appear as wide as it is long in the most extreme cases. Drop earrings are your first choice, as they will elongate your face. Choose long and skinny earrings, and avoid hoop earrings, as they will make your face appear wider.

Stand out in simple, classic styles, such as pearl earrings, if you have the coveted oval shape of face. Your face is well balanced and any kind of earring will flatter you.

Select very feminine earrings to soften your strong jaw line if you have a square face. Teardrop earrings of the right length -- usually right at your chin -- will soften that strong jaw line. Don't pick earrings with well defined edges, such as star-shaped earrings, because they will exaggerate the square shape of your face.

Lengthen your face and add width at your jaw line if you have a heart-shaped face. Look for earrings that are narrow at the top and wider at the bottom, like a teardrop shape. Don't wear earrings the same shape as your face.

Try hoop earrings or chandelier earrings to balance out your face if its shape is the inverted triangle, with a wide, big forehead and a small, pointy chin.

Balance out a narrow, oblong face with hoop earrings or anything that will add width to your face to make it appear fuller.

  • Do not wear stud earrings unless you have an oval face shape.
