How to Host a Tony Awards Party

Have a lot of Broadway babies in your life? Invite them over to celebrate the highlight of the Broadway season, by hosting a fun and easy Tony awards party.

Invite your guests with some Broadway flair! Make party invites with a Playbill or theater ticket design to get your guests excited about your party.

Decorate Broadway style! Display the marquee posters of your favorite shows or use poster board and tin foil to create star cut-outs decorated with names of famous Broadway shows and stars.

Make it a costume event! Guests can arrive dressed as their favorite Broadway characters.

Serve Broadway-themed food. Guests can feast on "Sweeney Todd meat pies" or "Wicked green soup." Another idea is to serve New York City-themed food, like New York cheesecake or black and white cookies.

Create a Tony award ballot, so guests can vote on their choices for the winners of the night. Offer a Broadway-themed prize for the guest who chooses the most correct answers.

Plan adequate seating around the television set for the big event. During other portions of your Tony awards party, play showtunes on the stereo or display movie musicals using the DVD player.

For some fun entertainment, set up a karaoke corner where guests can belt out showtunes during commercial breaks.

Tips

  • Some guests may not be as familiar with current Broadway shows. Plan on setting up a separate area of your house for guests to mingle if they don't wish to watch every minute of the Tony awards broadcast.
