Auditioning for the Ford Supermodel of the World Competition is a monumental occasion for some aspiring models. Auditions for this competition are typically open calls so it is important to make yourself stand out against the numerous other girls. Winners typically win a $250,000 contract with Ford Models and they gain significant publicity for their modeling careers. While attending an open call, look the part and show your personality to gain the attention of casting directors.
Items you will need
- Comp cards
- Ironed professional clothes
Write down the next audition date on a calendar in big bold letters. Start a countdown to remind you how much time you have to prepare. Purchase plane tickets in advance if your closest audition is away from your hometown.
Prep yourself for a stellar audition by learning to model. Practice your runway walk as well as smiling and posing in front of the mirror. Watch modeling television shows to see the way professional models pose and to learn about their inspirations.
Purchase clothes for your audition. Some casual clothes, such as jeans and a spaghetti strap shirt with tall black heels, are appropriate. Iron your clothes and have them hanging in the closet the night before the audition.
Attend an open call and arrive early. Open calls have previously been held at the W Hotel Westwood in Los Angeles as well as the W Hotel Lexington Avenue in New York City. An open call means that anyone can attend, so cancel other auditions that day to free up time in case your audition runs late.
Bring a portfolio if you have one. Items in your portfolio can include two or three of your best photos as well as clips from professional modeling work. Show the portfolio when casting directors demonstrate interest in seeing it.
Wear tall heels to your audition only if you can walk in them without falling. Your comfort is important to your audition because you typically need to be comfortable to show your personality.
Being a Ford model is about more than just a pretty face. Act nice to every person you meet at the open call. An assistant can easily put in a positive or negative word for you.
