Several websites have made it simpler to find the address of a person, family or business in China. An understanding of Mandarin or Cantonese Chinese is not necessary but may help if you need to delve deeper or contact someone in China as a result of your search. The time it takes to find the address of the person, family or business you are looking for will vary depending on how readily the information is available.
Step 1
Go to the China Yellow Pages (see Resources) and complete the form with as much information as you have about the business for which you are searching. You can use the drop-down menu at the top of the screen to find a business by category and province. It helps if you have a telephone number for the business.
Step 2
Visit China Telecom's Yellow Pages website (see Resources). The website is available in both Cantonese and English and can help you find an address in the Shanghai area. The website does not cover other parts of China.
Step 3
Use a search engine to look up the address of the place for which you are looking. For example, searching for "American Embassy, China" will bring up the site for the American consulate with details of its address on the page.
