9 Recipes The Gilmore Girls Would Never Attempt (But You Should!)

by Megan Beauchamp ; Updated November 21, 2016

It's safe to say that Lorelai and Rory wouldn't attempt any of these recipes themselves (remember when Max introduced them to the broiler?), but that doesn't mean you shouldn't. With these recipes, you can whip up a juicy burger like Luke Danes, mix up a potent Friday night dinner martini like Richard Gilmore and serve Pop-Tart appetizers like Lorelai Gilmore. After all, what's a movie night —or a Netflix marathon — without tons of junk food?

1. A Straight-Up Martini

Ah, the gin martini (a.k.a. the drink that got Lorelai through Friday night dinners). Adjust this recipe to make Lorelai's beverage of choice by swapping vodka for gin and a twist for an olive.

The drinks fortify us. The drinks give us strength. The drinks get us drunk.

2. Classic Chocolate Pudding

Take a page out of Emily Gilmore's playbook and make a mental note to serve pudding, a favorite Gilmore girls' dessert. No crystal bowls required.

I love pudding. I worship it. I have a bowl up on the mantel at home with the Virgin Mary, a glass of wine and a dollar bill next to it.

3. Deep Dish Pizza

Pizza is a Gilmore girls' movie night staple, and with this recipe you don't need to wait for Joe to deliver it to your door.

4. Homemade Pop-Tarts

Here are some Pop-Tart appetizers to hold you over 'til the pizza is done. Don't forget the apple garnish.

The Pop-Tart tasted like freedom and rebellion and independence.

5. A Brioche Burger

There's no substitute for a Luke's Diner burger, but we'd have to imagine this brioche burger would rival the fictional Gilmore girls' staple.

I would like a cheeseburger, with a side of cheeseburger, and see if they can make me a cheeseburger smoothie.

6. Crispy Baked French Fries

These oven-baked French fries pair well with salt and pepper dip, which is "the only way to eat a fry," according to Jess.

7. Shredded Chicken Tacos

Tacos are the ultimate cure for a Founder's Day Punch hangover.

8. Homemade Apple Pie

What's a meal at Luke's without a slice of pie for dessert?

I'm attracted to pie, but that doesn't mean I feel the need to date pie.

9. Chocolate Ice Cream

Now that you've watched all four parts of "A Year in the Life," it's probably hitting you that "Gilmore Girls" is officially over. Time to drown your sorrows in a big bowl of chocolate ice cream, like Rory did when Dean broke up with her (the first time).

I'm ready to wallow now.

— Rory Gilmore
