The pores in your skin allow your body to get rid of substances such as sweat and oil. Heredity determines the normal size of your pores, although they can become larger when you wax your skin to remove hairs. Large pores are harmless but cosmetically undesirable in many cases, especially on your face. You can often reduce the size of large pores with home remedies, although some cases may require professional treatment.
Make your own skin toner. A common recipe calls for an equal mixture of rose water, cucumber juice and lime juice. These substances are natural astringents that shrink skin tissue, thereby making your pores smaller.
Dip a cotton pad in your skin toner and place it on your skin for about 20 minutes. You may need more than one pad to adequately cover the area of your skin that has large pores.
Rinse the skin toner from your skin with water that’s as cold as possible and pat it dry with a towel. This can reduce the size of large pores, which allows your body to retain more heat.
Place a cotton pad in an alcohol wash and allow it to soak into the pad. Rub the cotton pad against your skin to remove any oil or other debris that may be blocking your pores. Allow the alcohol wash to evaporate naturally to further tighten your pores.
Apply a moisturizer to your skin with your fingers. A skin moisturizer contains emollients that replace the moisture that astringents can remove. It should also have some type of alpha hydroxy acid to remove dead skin cells, which can block large pores.
