Your genetic makeup plays the biggest part in determining pore size, and it isn't possible to change it. Beauty products, spa treatments and all-natural homemade facials won't shrink pores permanently. Some of the ingredients in a facial, though, might have a temporary toning effect on your pores.

Changing Pore Size

Even though you can't change the size of your pores, it is possible to make pores appear smaller temporarily. Oil and dirt clog pores, making them look bigger. A homemade facial may be able to extract the debris, so pores become less noticeable. Some ingredients kill the bacteria that cause acne and lead to enlarged pores. Other ingredients have a tightening or toning effect on skin.

Homemade Facial Ingredients for Large Pores

If you have acne-prone skin, treat your face with a few spoonfuls of honey. Honey won't minimize pores by itself, but it has antibacterial properties for fighting off acne. Citrus fruits, including lemon, grapefruit and orange, help tone the skin. Strawberries and other berries reduce oiliness, and cucumber slices have an astringent effect on pores. White and green teas contain antioxidants and caffeine for tightening skin. Whipped egg whites, combined with a few pinches of cornstarch, help refine pores. Masks made with natural clays, such as fuller's earth, bentonite or kaolin, absorb oil on skin and reduce the appearance of large pores temporarily.
