Created from the dense layer of fat found just underneath a mink’s skin, mink oil is used in a variety of health and beauty products. The thick oil is also combined with other products, including beeswax, to create a waterproofing agent for leather. Aside from protecting your leather work or dress boots from the negative effects of moisture, Kiwi Mink Oil also works as a moisturizer to help keep the leather soft and supple. Apply Kiwi Mink Oil correctly to ensure the product is fully worked into the leather’s pores.
Tap the boot’s heels together gently over a garbage can to break off any larger chunks of dirt or mud, if applicable. Clean off any remaining dirt, mud or debris from the leather boots with a soft-bristled brush. Use an unwanted toothbrush to remove any dirt or mud from the nooks, crannies and other hard-to-reach areas.
Wipe down the leather boots with a slightly damp soft cloth, which helps remove any oils or unseen dirt from the boots. Once the boots are completely dry, dampen the corner of a clean, soft cloth with the Kiwi Mink Oil.
Work a thin layer of the Kiwi Mink Oil into the leather boots using small, overlapping circles. Pay attention to work the product into the seams or stitching. This is where water is most likely to seep through the boots. Avoid spreading a thick layer of the mink oil onto the waterproof boots, as this clogs the leather’s pores instead of allowing the product to be absorbed.
Wipe away any excess Kiwi Mink Oil from the boots with a separate clean cloth. Set the boots in a cool, dry place and allow them to sit for at least 12 hours, or overnight.
