Blackheads and whiteheads are unsightly skin imperfections that result from the buildup of oil and dirt on the surface of the skin. While regularly visiting an esthetician is one of the best ways to get rid of skin imperfections such as blackheads and whiteheads, you can do the same thing at home with a dual ended blackhead remover. You can improve your skin as you remove blackheads and whiteheads through proper use of a dual ended blackhead remover without having to worry about damaging it.
Items you will need
- Hot water
- Steamer (optional)
- Magnifying mirror
- Dual ended blackhead remover
- Cotton balls
- Disinfectant (salicylic acid/tea tree oil)
Cleanse your skin. Wash your face thoroughly with soap and water, ridding it of all moisturizers and cosmetics. Pat dry with a towel.
Steam your skin to open your pores. Boil a pot of hot water and hold your face over the resulting steam or run hot water in your sink and place your face over the steam. You can also hold a hot washcloth over your face, take a hot shower or use a cosmetic steamer to open your pores.
Set up your station. Have a mirror, proper lighting, disinfectant, cotton balls and your blackhead remover ready before you begin the process. While any mirror will work, a magnifying mirror with lighting will allow you to remove blackheads and whiteheads most effectively. The lighting by the mirror you are using must be bright enough to allow you a close and detailed view of your skin.
Remove blackheads. Use the fine, smaller looped end of the blackhead remover to remove blackheads by encircling the blackhead and slowly applying gentle pressure. The oil and dirt causing the blackhead should emerge from the pore as a result of the pressure.
Remove whiteheads with the larger loop by carefully applying pressure with the metal tip. Push down on the whitehead to break it. When the whitehead breaks, roll the loop over the area to ensure that you remove all oil and buildup.
Disinfect the area. Prevent the spread of bacteria to other areas of your skin by disinfecting your skin with either a salicylic acid treatment or with tea tree oil. Place a small amount of either treatment on a cotton ball and rub it across your skin where you removed the blackheads or whiteheads.
When a blackhead or whitehead does not protrude from the pore when you apply pressure with the remover, do not force the blackhead or whitehead out. Aggravating the pore may lead to an infection, which results in the form of a large pimple.
