Rhinestones are a quick and inexpensive way to give an ordinary pair of boots an instant makeover. Whether you want a few rhinestones to add a bit of sparkle or all over for a blindingly bedazzled look, you can transform your boots at home with a few supplies found at any crafts store.

Items you will need

  • Rhinestones
  • Bowl or tray
  • Applicator wands
  • Permanent adhesive
Step 1

To help you determine the right size rhinestones, select the areas of the boot where you'd like to apply them and then find the appropriate sizes. For example, if you have a 1 mm area, use one 1 mm stone or two .5 mm stones.

Step 2

Once you have a size, select the type of rhinestones you want. Based on your color preference and budget, this can vary. Swarovski and Czech crystals are very popular, but there are a variety of real and acrylic stones at most craft stores or online.

Step 3

Put your rhinestones in a tray or bowl. Place your boot on a flat, clean surface. Dab a drop of glue about the same size as the stone on the spot where you would like to lay it. You can also use a syringe or cotton swab to apply the glue to the boot.

Step 4

Use the applicator to apply the stones by touching the wax of the applicator to the front side of stone. Place the back side of the stone to the permanent adhesive and press down. Repeat anywhere else you want rhinestones.

Step 5

Let your boots dry completely overnight.

  • Place an old newspaper over your workspace to pick up any mess.

Try the process with an inexpensive or older pair of boots and start with small sections of glue until you get the hang of rhinestone application.
