Neckties, in one form or another, have been in use since the 1600s. It is believed that they were first worn by mercenary soldiers. Soon, neckties were a popular fashion accessory all over Europe. Today, neckties are available in just about any color and pattern imaginable. Neckties offer many choices apart from the standard tie, such as pre-tied ties, bow ties and clip on ties. A common problem with pre-tied ties is that they easily become untied, posing a problem to those who do not know how to tie them properly. You can easily re-tie your tie by following these simple steps.

Stand in front of your mirror and place the tie around your neck.

Place the wide side of the tie on the right side of your chest and the skinny side on the left side of your chest.

Pull the wide end of the tie toward your feet until it is 11 to 12 inches longer then the skinny end of the tie.

Place the wide end of tie over the top of the skinny end of the tie.

Pull the wide end of the tie behind the skinny end of the tie and up toward your face between the tie and your collar.

Pull the wide end of the tie toward your feet.

Pull the wide end of the tie back behind the skinny end of the tie toward the right side of your body.

Bring the wide end of the tie around the front of the skinny end of the tie.

Pull the wide end of the tie through the loop between the tie and your collar.

Pull the wide end down toward your feet into the knot created in the front of the tie.

Tighten the tie toward your collar.
