The ability to choose the right color, length and style of tie separates a well-dressed man from a poorly dressed man. Measure your tie to ensure the correct size. Use this information at the store when looking for a tie with the same measurements, or look for a longer or shorter tie.
Lay your necktie on a flat surface and lay it out to its normal length.
Place your tape measure at the wide end, right next to the tie, and extend it to the thin end. Write down this measurement of the length of the tie.
Place the tape measure on one side of the tie, at its widest point, and extend the tape to the other side. Write down this measurement of the width of your tie.
