A beard can make a man look extremely distinguished — and a white beard can confer an almost wizardly status. However, one problem with white beards is that they can become discolored and yellowish. A few simple tricks will have your beard white and pristine in no time.
Wash your beard and mustache in warm water and plenty of soap. Rinse with clean water and wash again. While still soapy, gently comb your beard thoroughly with a fine-tooth comb. This will remove any buildup of oil, dirt and dead skin. Rinse thoroughly and dry with a towel.
Run approximately a quart of warm water into a plugged sink and add lemon juice. Wet beard with the solution, ensuring that every hair is covered. You can use the comb or your hands. Leave for 10 minutes. Rinse and check the beard. If it is nicely whitened, simply repeat this treatment once a week. If it still discolored or if your beard has darker hair in it, proceed as follows.
Carry out a skin test with the facial hair bleach. Put on the gloves that are usually included in the bleach kit. Follow the manufacturer's directions on the enclosed leaflet. If you don't have a reaction to the bleach, you can proceed with the full process. Protect the skin around the beard by rubbing on petroleum jelly with your fingers. Pay attention to the neck area, which can be very sensitive.
Mix the bleach according to the directions. Some will not require this, but most bleach treatments are made up of two components. Using the small brush or comb included in the kit, carefully apply the bleach to your beard. Be careful not to get bleach in your eyes. Should you have any dark hair in your beard, make sure to cover those areas first; otherwise start at the highest points and work your way down to the lowest.
Wait for the time given in the directions. Do not leave the bleach on longer than stated. Wipe excess bleach and petroleum jelly with paper towels. Rinse very carefully with warm water. Wash with soap and water. Apply hair conditioner to your beard. Rinse well and dry. Moisturize exposed skin with a moisturizing facial lotion.
