Remy hair wigs have become a staple for many celebrities, including Tyra Banks and Beyonce. Remy wigs have a natural appearance because they are laced wigs made from Indian or Chinese Remy, both of which are considered the highest quality of human hair. The lustrous, shiny look of Remy wigs makes them more expensive than regular ones. The best-quality Remy wigs cost from $130 to well over $600. Following the right hair care procedures will extend the life of your wig.
Wash and condition the hair on a weekly basis. Comb out the hair daily using a wide-tooth comb to remove tangles.
Run your fingers through the hair to remove any tangles and use a wide-tooth comb or brush to comb through the hair prior to washing it.
In a spray bottle, create a mixture that is 50 percent conditioner and 50 percent water. Shake it up and spray it on the hair. Wet the hair gradually and then brush it.
Brush the hair starting from the bottom and then to the top. Use a vent brush like Bobby Original Vent Brush (which can be found on Amazon.com for $3) to brush the hair.
Use quality hair products to shampoo and condition the wig. Consider Redken Smooth Down shampoo and Redken Smooth Down conditioner, which sell for $15 each at Drugstore.com.
Place the wig in a basin filled with cool water. Add a mild moisturizing shampoo to the water and soak the wig in it for at least seven minutes.
Lather the wig with the shampoo but do not rub or tug at the hair. Gently squeeze the soapy water through the hair from the top to the hair ends. Thoroughly rinse the wig in cool water before applying conditioner.
Saturate the wig with hair conditioner. Use oil-free shampoo and conditioner. Let the conditioner sit on hair for at least five minutes.
Rinse wig in cool water the basin to thoroughly remove any conditioner from the wig. Gently squeeze the water out of the hair before drying the wig. Towel dry the hair or let it air dry
Apply a quality leave-in conditioner to moisturize the wig and prevent the hair from becoming too dry. Use Organic Root Stimulator Olive Oil Moisturizing hair lotion. It is non-greasy, adds sheen and moisturizes the hair.
Follow the previous steps after swimming with the wig on. Also ensure you wash the hair after exercising and after sweating to keep the hair clean.
Protect the hair when using heat styling tools like flat irons or curling irons. To prevent hair damage, use styling products like CHI 44 Iron Guard Thermal.
When wearing your wig, ensure your scalp is clean and oil-free. When sleeping with a long-hair wig on, braid it in sections or wrap the hair and cover with a silk scarf.
