When you're looking to add a touch of glamour to a party, use a celebrity theme to make your guests feel like the rich and famous. By using iconic Hollywood symbols and recreating the glitz of the spotlight, you can create an unforgettable evening of poses and pictures. As you plan, choose a theme: old-Hollywood glamour, for example, or perhaps a modern-day paparazzi storm?
Come as a Celebrity
About three weeks before the party, send out invitations, and include a line that requests that guests dress as a celebrity. Use the invitation style and wording to clue guests in about the style of the night. You might include a line that says, "Come as your favorite tabloid celebrity," or "Dress: stars of the 1940's stage and screen." After reading the invitation, guests should know whether you'd like them to come dressed as Lauren Bacall or Paris Hilton.
Use a Red Carpet
In the entrance of the party room, set up a long red carpet for guests to walk down and make a grand entrance. You might set up a board papered with different movie studio logos in front of which the guests can pose. If your party is to be held in a public space, you might be able to use the sidewalk; check with city officials first to find out about necessary permits.
Hire Paparazzi
Treat your guests like celebrities by hiring some paparazzi to cover the party. You might recruit friends who love photography, various family members, or you can even hire local actors. Have your paparazzi stalk the red carpet, follow guests, and request that guests pose together during the event. Your guests will love being in the spotlight, and you will end up with plenty of photos from the evening.
Star Photos
To decorate your party, use giant, blown-up photos of celebrities. If your party is an old-Hollywood theme, you can use dramatic black-and-white stills from old movies. For a more contemporary theme, look for tabloid-style candids. If you can't find images that are large enough to blow up, recreate the moments with costumes and obscured faces and use those instead. For great photo opportunities, find life-size cutouts of celebrities and place around the room for guests to pose with.
Make a Hollywood Sign
For a dramatic statement at your party, make a Hollywood sign that spans the length of the longest wall. You can make the letters out of cardboard refrigerator boxes and either nail to the wall or attach to a backing of thin wooden planks. Follow the design and letter styling of the Hollywood sign that stands on the hills above Los Angeles.
