Removing stubborn tangles first thing in the morning can be a recurring nightmare, especially if your hair is long. It isn't necessary to pay outrageous prices for detanglers to rid your hair of snarls and bird's nests. Instead, make your own natural, organic hair detangler that will leave your hair feeling soft and smelling great. A chemical-free hair detangler is gentle enough for children and won't irritate tender scalps.

Grapefruit Detangler

Place 1 cup distilled water in a plastic spray bottle. Add 2 to 4 drops of glycerin, 2 teaspoons aloe vera gel and 30 drops of grapefruit seed extract.

Add 3 to 5 drops of essential oil of your choice. Rosemary, chamomile, lavender, tea tree and ylang ylang are all beneficial essential oil choices for hair.

Shake the bottle gently to blend the ingredients, then shake again before each use.

Lavender Detangler

Place 1 cup of lavender water in a plastic spray bottle. Look for lavender water at herbal supplies or stores that carry natural, organic cosmetics.

Add the contents of one vitamin E capsule and 1/2 teaspoon jojoba oil. Shake the bottle to distribute the oils.

Store the lavender detangler in a cupboard or any dark, cool place between uses. Shake the bottle before each use, then spritz your hair lightly before combing.
