The ponytail is one of the most duplicated, flattering and effortless hairstyles around. Just as there is a pair of jeans for every figure, there is a ponytail that complements every face. Whether you want to conceal an imperfection, such as large ears, or just want your ears covered for the style aspect, a cute ponytail will cover them with flair. Take a look at how to pull your hair back without revealing too much.

Low Ponytail

A low ponytail doesn't always have to cover the ears, but if that is the way you want to wear it, then there are a few ways to achieve the look. The most essential thing to remember, as with any type of ponytail that you want to cover your ears, is not to comb the hair behind the ears, but instead pull it over them. Once that key element is intact, you can go about placing your low ponytail at the nape of your neck, off to one side or split in two over each shoulder.

Side Ponytail

A side ponytail will easily cover one of your ears, however, when you want both ears covered you need a bit more style know-how. The side where the ponytail rests is the focal point of this hairstyle, but you'll want to also cover the ear on the other side. You can achieve this by incorporating a deep side part with a bang that falls over the other ear. Another option is to leave stray pieces of hair out along the opposite side. Adding texture with curls and/or waves also makes it easier to cover the ears because of the volume they create.

Bouffant Ponytail

Edgy, dramatic and definitely capable of covering your ears, a bouffant ponytail is full of character with a retro twist. In case you don't know or need a little refresher, a bouffant is hair that is severely teased and manipulated to form a rounded shape. It is then placed into a ponytail anywhere on the head you like. For the basis of covering your ears, your bouffant ponytail should be either at the nape of the neck or off to one side. A deep side part should be placed on either side if the ponytail is at the nape and on the opposite side if wearing a side bouffant ponytail. Finish off by curling the bang tightly and brush in a sweeping motion so that it sweeps across the face and over the ear.

Messy Ponytail

Those mornings when you are rushing out the door and all you have time for is a hap hazard ponytail may be more fashion forward than you think. The "bed head" look, which is also the category that a messy ponytail falls into, is sexy and effortless. The reason this ponytail style is ideal for covering the ears is because of the numerous stray pieces that escape the ponytail and fall along the sides of the face and over the ears. As far as the exact placement of the ponytail it can be wherever you like, including high atop the head or in the middle, because a messy ponytail is intended to be loose and secured over the ears.
