Chex has as much a reputation as a snack food as it does a breakfast cereal. If you're a fan of TLC's hit reality show, "Jon and Kate Plus 8," you might remember that Kate made a Chex-based snack for her kids she called "monkey munch." This sweet treat is a hit with kids and adults alike -- easy to make and easier to enjoy.

Pour 9 parts Chex cereal into a large bowl. One part equal 1 cup, so you need 9 cups of Chex cereal.

Add 1 part semi-sweet chocolate chips, 1/2 part melted peanut butter and 1/4 part butter to a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave the ingredients on high for 30 seconds.

Stir in a few drops of vanilla extract to the melted chocolate mixture. Pour the chocolate mixture over the Chex cereal.

Pour the coated cereal mixture into a large, resealable plastic bag. Add 1 part powdered sugar to the mixture in the bag and shake until evenly coated.

Pour the powdered sugar into the bag and shake until the mixture is evenly coated with the sugar. Spread the mixture onto wax paper and allow to cool. Store monkey munch in an airtight container or food-storage bag.

  • For different variations, substitute ingredients, such as white chocolate for semi-sweet chocolate and cinnamon extract for vanilla.
