Most display food is fake food, not real. It is used for photographing for use in ads and food articles and, most popularly, for display in restaurants. If real food were used, it would start to wilt, melt or oxidize and turn brown in a short amount of time. Most display food is prepared by professional wax molding companies, but you can make some items, like ice cream, at home.
Scoop out a scoop of Crisco with the ice cream scooper.
Release the Crisco into an ice cream dish.
Add sprinkles on top to accentuate the realistic look.
- Keep it in the refrigerator before displaying or make sure the room temperature is 75 degrees Fahrenheit or lower.
- Crisco will start to melt if the room temperature gets too warm.
