How to Cheer a Guy Up

When your guy’s down in the dumps, he could be going through a range of emotions from a recent occurrence and just need a pick-me-up. He might not be ready to talk about it, and really it doesn’t matter because you know you’re the only one who can make him feel better. Whether it’s your corny jokes or sweet, patient heart, cheer up your guy so he can begin feeling like his old self again.

Distract him by telling him something silly that happened to you. Reroute his blues by shining a spotlight on your series of botched mishaps from the last couple of days. From when you locked yourself out of the house to getting chased by a neighborhood dog, give him something to take his mind off of his situation.

Give him plenty of affection. Spend quality time with him and dish out plenty of hugs and kisses. A little affection goes a long way to boost his spirits, knowing that someone cares about his happiness. If you two are prone to being playful, knock him around by tossing a few playful punches his way or wrestling with him in the middle of the floor. If he’s ticklish, now’s the time to touch his hot spots.

Offer to talk about anything that’s on his mind. Reassure him that, if and when he’s ready to talk about anything, you’re willing to lend an ear. Sometimes when someone isn’t feeling 100 percent, his friends avoid bringing up the fact that something’s wrong. Don’t let this be the case with your guy. If he doesn’t want to talk, don’t pressure him; however, do let him know that, if he wants to vent, you’re there.

Give him a get well gift. Purchase something you know he’ll love, such as a new basketball, cologne or a movie pass. Write a little note letting him know that you’re glad you have him as a friend and you’re willing to help him feel better.
