How to Broil Tilapia

by Contributor ; Updated September 28, 2017

Tilapia is both healthful and delicious. Four ounces of the fish contains just 1 gram of fat, 93 calories and 21 grams of protein. Also, according to a U.S. Food and Drug Administration study from 1990-2000, it has one of the lowest levels of mercury. Broiling tasty tilapia takes just a few ingredients and just a few minutes of your time.

Place the desired number of frozen tilapia fillets in a plastic bag. Set the bag in a bowl of warm water or in the sink for about 5 minutes to let the fillets thaw.

Set your oven to broil. Remove the tilapia fillets from the plastic bag. Butter both sides of each tilapia fillet, and then lightly cover each side with lemon pepper seasoning.

Place the fillets on a baking sheet, then put them in the oven for 3 to 4 minutes. Take the baking sheet out of the oven, turn the tilapia fillets over, then put the pan back in the oven to allow the fish to continue cooking for an additional 2 to 3 minutes. The tilapia is done cooking when it flakes when pierced with fork.
