How to Make a Homemade Apple Cider Vinegar Body Wrap

An at-home apple cider vinegar body wrap is relaxing and leaves your skin rejuvenated, nourishing and smoothing dry skin and helping to clear up acne thanks to bacteria-fighting malic acid. An apple cider vinegar body wrap is easy to make with common household items, and is a simple and skin-soothing choice for an at-home spa day.

Mix Vinegar and Water

Pour the water into a large pot and heat on high over the stove until it reaches a rolling boil, then remove it from heat. Immediately add the cup of apple cider vinegar and stir.

You may add essential oils to the vinegar and water mixture. Some, such as lavender or orange oil, not only have a scent that conjures up the luxury of a spa trip, but have the added benefits of helping you relax, releasing stress and tension and regenerating energy.

Prepare the Wrap

Once you have mixed the water and vinegar, let it sit for 10 to 15 minutes to allow it to cool to a comfortably warm temperature. After that time has passed, take your large sheet or bath towel and dip it into the mixture, making sure it is submerged and saturated with the mixture. You may dip as many sheets or towels as you want, but one or two should be the maximum you need for a full body wrap.

At this time you may want to apply unscented body lotion to increase the moisturizing effects of the wrap. You can also brush your skin with a dry skin brush in long, sweeping outward motions to increase blood circulation and apply a warm towel to the areas of your body that you are planning to wrap to open pores, again increasing the positive effects of the wrap on your skin. These steps are optional, but are a great way to maximize the benefits of an apple cider vinegar wrap.

Apply the Wrap

Once your towel or sheet is completely saturated in the warm mixture of vinegar and water, remove it from the pot and gently wring dry just enough to avoid excessive dripping as you apply the wrap. Starting at the ankles if you intend to do a full body wrap, or the lowest point if you are applying the wrap to only one area, begin to wind the sheet or towel around your body. It should be tight enough that it will stay next to your skin without it being held there, but not so tight that it becomes uncomfortable. Continue wrapping until the desired area is fully covered by at least one layer of the sheet or towel.

Relax

Once you have applied the wrap, take seat or lie down and relax for at least one hour. During this time you can watch TV, read a book or even take a nap. After leaving the wrap on for between one and four hours, you can begin unwrapping the sheet or towel from the top, in the opposite direction as it was applied. Once you have removed the wrap, simply rinse off in the shower or bath.
