Five Great Ways To Enjoy Mexico With Your Family
Mexico is a great vacation destination for your family, especially if you're looking to enjoy the beach in year-round warm weather. From the Riviera Maya to Los Cabos, the country has a lot to offer and there are lots of resorts tailor-made for kids of all ages. Here are five resorts in Mexico that you'll enjoy any time of year.
Riviera Maya
The Riviera Maya is a region just south of Cancun, located along the sparkling Caribbean Ocean. The area offers tons of amazing resorts, including the Barcelo Maya Palace (Carretera Chetumal-Puerto Juárez Km. 266.3, Solidaridad Riviera Maya), which is part of the massive Barcelo Maya Grand Resort. The resort is all-inclusive, with rooms from $250 per night, and is situated on the beach, facing those warm Caribbean waters. It's great for families since it offers the Barcy Kids Club for children 4 to 12 years old, and there's a mini golf course and a bowling alley with arcade games. Your picky eaters will have a lot of dining options, from Mexican fare to French food to American-style buffets. And, of course, you'll all enjoy the beach, which offers warm weather year-round. While in the area, be sure to take a day trip to the Mayan ruins in Tulum or visit the town of Playa del Carmen. The aquatic theme park and eco-tourism destination of Xel-Ha Park (Carretera Chetumal Puerto Juárez Km 240, Q.R., Mexico) is also worth exploring with your family.
Playa Grande Resort, Cabo San Lucas
Playa Grande Resort (Av. Playa Grande no. 1 Col. Centro, Cabo San Lucas) is the perfect way to enjoy the shimmering waters of the Pacific Ocean. Located in Los Cabos, a favorite Mexican destination, this extensive resort features several swimming pools, a Kids Club, a private beach and tennis courts. There are five restaurants, including a sushi bar, and your family will love grabbing meals outdoors any time of the year. Every room is a suite and includes a kitchen, which makes traveling with kids a lot easier. There's nothing to worry about except making sure everyone is wearing enough sunscreen. Rooms are available for less than $200 per night.
Puerto Vallarta
The resort town of Puerto Vallarta, located along Mexico’s Pacific coast, is a less touristy option for families visiting Mexico. The city center, lined with cobblestone streets, is home to the historic Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe church (Hidalgo 370, Puerto Vallarta, Jal., Mexico) and numerous restaurants, boutique shops and bars. If you want to relax away from the downtown action, enjoy everything Puerto Vallarta has to offer at the Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit (Av. Cocoteros, 98 Sur, 63735 Nuevo Vallarta), located along the northern edge of Banderas Bay. The resort is an easy 25-minute drive from Puerto Vallarta's center, and you'll love the relaxed vibe of the rooms and hotel grounds. The experience is all-inclusive and features something for every member of the family, from the nightly live music to the Kids' Club, which has daily activities for children 4 to 12. The resort can also arrange for your family to go swimming with dolphins, a memorable activity every visitor to Mexico should do once. Rooms can be pricey in the summer months, starting at around $600, but it's worth the splurge.
Beach Palace Cancun
Beach Palace Cancun (Km 11.5, Blvd. Kukulcan, Zona Hotelera, 77500 Cancun) is a family-friendly, all-inclusive resort with a luxury vibe. Gaze out over the blue ocean waters and white sand beaches from your Family Deluxe room, which start at $455 per night. The rooms include an XBOX 360/DVD player, special room service menu with kid-friendly dishes and fully stocked, complimentary mini bar for snacking. Outside, there are swimming pools to dip in, a Playroom with activities for kids and nightly live entertainment. It's fun for the whole family. So much so that you may never want to come home.
Club Med Ixtapa Pacific
No detail is forgotten at Club Med Ixtapa Pacific (Playa Quieta S/N, Zona Hotelera Segunda, 40880 Ixtapa Zihuatanejo), a 300-room resort with views of the Pacific Ocean. There are tons of designated areas and activities for your young ones, with four different children's clubs for kids of all ages (including babies and teens). Adults and kids will be thrilled by Club Med's infamous Flying Trapeze School, which offers circus activities. Play some beach volleyball or table tennis, or just lay on the beach. Everything is included in the rates, which start at around $250 per night, so no one will ever go hungry or get bored.
