How to Pack a Sweater

Whether you are packing for a family vacation or a business trip, you want your clothing to arrive looking fresh, unwrinkled and clean. Packing a suitcase can be a challenge, however. Clothes that are jammed in overly tight spaces can wrinkle, but if the suitcase isn't full, your garments will shift and crumple. When it comes to packing sweaters, you have two options: roll lightweight, pullover sweaters and fold bulkier or buttoned garments.

Rolling Sweaters

Step 1

Lay your sweater facedown on the bed with the arms extended.

Step 2

Cross the sleeves across the back of the sweater so they resemble the letter X.

Step 3

Fold the sweater in half vertically, keeping the crossed arms inside. Smooth any wrinkles or puckers.

Step 4

Starting at the bottom of the sweater, roll the garment up to the neck. Keep the roll taut but not overly tight.

Step 5

Pack the rolled sweater near the top or side of your suitcase.

Folding Sweaters

Step 1

Lay your sweater facedown on the bed with the arms extended.

Step 2

Fold the arms straight across the back of the sweater so they overlap.

Step 3

Lift the left side of the sweater and fold it inward so the shoulder meets the center of the sweater's back. Repeat on the right side.

Step 4

Fold the sweater upward so the bottom hem is against the neckline.

Step 5

Turn the folded sweater over and pack in your suitcase.
