How to Make Homemade Pasta Dough

by Nannette Richford

Pasta is the ultimate in comfort food. What could be more comforting than fresh homemade pasta straight from the kitchen? This wonderful pasta recipe can be used to create delicious filled pasta or cooked up just as it is for a flavorful meal that will please even the pickiest eaters.

Place flour on a clean counter or bread board and heap into a pile. Create a well in the center.

Drop eggs into the well and add water.

Beat the eggs and water together and begin to mix in the flour a little at a time by folding flour from the edges into the egg and water mixture. Continue until the dough forms a soft ball.

Place dough on a lightly floured board and knead for 10 minutes. The dough should become smooth and elastic.

Form a ball and cover with plastic wrap. Allow to rest for 30 minutes.

Roll with a rolling pin to desired thickness.

Cut into desired shape and boil in slightly salted water for 5 to 8 minutes. The thickness of the pasta will determine the exact cooking time. Check the pasta often to catch it when it is al dente.

Serve with melted butter or the sauce of your choice.

  • Although some will swear by the method of making pasta dough by creating a well in the center and adding flour gradually, I personally have made made pasta by simply mixing the ingredients in the bowl. I do not see any significant difference in results using either method.
