Eating seafood is something that many people look forward to, whether or not they live near the coast. Fresh fish is always preferred, and another key element for many folks is the sauce. A dipping sauce is an absolute must for some people because it adds to the dish and completes the meal. This article will give you some tips on how to make the most popular sauce to eat with fish, tartar sauce.

Step 1

Make tartar sauce. This is a great sauce to eat with many types of fish. You start with a simple base, and add your own personal desires to suit your tastes.

Step 2

Pour one cup of mayonnaise in a mixing bowl. This is the base from which all tartar sauces are made. Low fat mayo can be substituted, but generally regular mayo yields better tasting sauce.

Step 3

Combine the mayo with 1/4 cup of sweet pickle relish, 2 tablespoons diced shallots (or onions if you prefer), 1/2 teaspoon dried tarragon, and one teaspoon of lemon juice.

Step 4

Stir all ingredients together, mixing well.

Step 5

Chill the tartar sauce. Tartar sauce is normally served chilled, so cover the bowl and store in the fridge until time for use.

Tips

  • Chill the tartar sauce before use. Double or triple recipes to meet your needs.

Warnings

  • Avoid using too much salt and pepper. The taste speaks for itself.
