How to Make Baby Announcement Door Hanger

by Foye Robinson

Door hangers are attention grabbers used to announce special events, grand openings, neighborhood barbecues and discount offers. You'll find them hanging on the doorknob as you pull up the driveway to your home. It’s no secret that door hangers are effective marketing tools. If you need to announce a baby’s arrival or a baby shower, what better tool to use than a door hanger? The door hanger should be colorful and include large, readable text.

Step 1

Create a baby announcement door hanger online by finding a blank door hanger template. You'll find a free door hanger template at rapides.k12.la.us/VI/mspublisher.htm. Select the "Door Hanger Template." Click "Open" to open it in Microsoft Publisher.

Step 2

Add a background to the door hanger by selecting "Format" then "Background" from the toolbar.

Step 3

Choose a background from the "Background" pane on the left and apply it. To find additional backgrounds or color schemes, select the "More backgrounds" or "Color Schemes" link from the bottom of the pane.

Step 4

Search for "baby" or "shower" clip art or photos you’d like to use. Then add the clip art or photos to the baby announcement by selecting "Insert, Picture, Clip Art" or "Insert, Picture, From File" from the toolbar.

Step 5

Double-click on your chosen photo in the "Clip Art" pane on the left, or to use a picture from your file, browse to find the photo and double-click it. Your image will be placed on your page.

Step 6

Resize the image to fit the door hanger dimensions and move it where you'd like it to appear.

Step 7

Insert a text box to your door hanger by selecting "Insert, Text Box" from the toolbar. Draw out your text box size on the page and type in the baby announcement. Increase the text box size if your words don’t fit by clicking the text box handles and pulling them out.

Step 8

Change the font size, style and color to your liking.

Step 9

Add "WordArt" to the door hanger by selecting "View, Toolbars, WordArt" from the menu. Click on the "Insert WordArt" button and choose a style from the "WordArt Gallery." Then, click "OK."

Step 10

Select a font, size and style in the "Enter WordArt Text" dialog box and type the text you’d like to use. Click "OK." Your WordArt text will appear on the page. Move it where you’d like it to appear.

Step 11

Make sure that the text and graphics do not cover the door hanger cut-out. It’s all right for the background to cover the hole.

Step 12

Check for any errors or typos and save the baby announcement door hanger by selecting "File, Save As." Name your file and change the folder location to where you can find it. Print the announcement on cardstock.
