Sometimes a baseball T-shirt can be tight around the neck and and might feel bothersome and uncomfortable. If you want to loosen up the neckline, you can cut out the collar and cut the shirt into a V-neck. You can leave the edge raw for an edgy look, or you can sew the neckline by hand or with a sewing machine for a more refined, finished look.
Cut off the entire neckline with a sharp pair of scissors, cutting just under the seam so you remove all the stitching.
Put the baseball T-shirt on and mark where you want the bottom of the V-neck to go using chalk. Draw a dot at the bottom of the V.
Take the T-shirt off and lay it down flat on a work surface. Using a ruler as a guide, draw a straight line from the bottom dot to the right side of the neckline. Repeat for the left side.
Put the T-shirt back on and make sure the lines are where you want the V-neck to go.
Cut the baseball T-shirt along the lines, keeping the cut in a straight line.
Put the T-shirt on to be sure it looks right. Adjust the cut if it appears to be lopsided.
Follow the steps in Section 1.
Turn the baseball T-shirt inside out and fold the cut edge in 1/2 inch. Pin with straight pins.
Sew the neckline 1/4 inch from the fold. Use a sewing machine or sew by hand with needle and thread. Use a thread color that matches the shirt so the seam won't be noticeable.
Remove the pins and try the shirt on.
Instead of sewing the hem into the shirt, sew a zigzag stitch along the cut edge with a sewing machine.
Being conservative with your cutting allows you to cut more if needed and avoid cutting off too much.
