Beets are part of the chenopod family and have many health benefits. While this super-food may be good for your body, the red pigment in beet juice can spell disaster for a white shirt. You don't need to pitch the shirt in the trash or cut it into rags just because it’s stained with beet juice. Although the dark red juice looks as though it will not come out, with a little patience, you can get your shirt back to pure white.
Step 1
Turn the shirt inside out, taking care not to let the stained part of the shirt touch unaffected areas of the fabric. Flush the back of the stained area of the shirt with cold running water until the water runs clear and no more juice is coming out of the fabric.
Step 2
Turn the shirt so the right side is out, and apply a prewash laundry stain remover to the juice stain. Let it sit for 10 to 15 minutes. Rinse the affected area of the shirt with cold water.
Step 3
Mix 1 gallon of water and ¼ cup chlorine bleach into a bucket. Place the shirt in the mixture and soak for up to 10 minutes. Don’t soak the shirt any longer or the fabric will begin to break down.
Step 4
Wash the shirt in cold water with laundry detergent, adding bleach to the load if needed.
