Making homemade chili is easy and fun. It is the perfect meal to make for cold winter weather, as a simple dinner after work, or during college football games. While many think that chili originated in Mexico, the meaty variety's roots are in Texas. Preparation takes a minimal amount of time. The meal will be done in a couple hours.

Cook ground beef thoroughly on medium heat using a large pot.

Chop one large onion in half and mince. Mince the garlic.

Strain the ground beef after it has browned to remove the grease.

Add tomato juice and diced tomatoes.

Drain the kidney beans and add to pot.

Add onions and garlic.

Sprinkle in 1/4 cup chili powder or to taste, stirring well.

Simmer for one hour, stirring occasionally.

Serve with crackers.
