When you start researching your family history, you will want somewhere to put all of the information you gather. There are two ways to design a family tree for free: offline, with free software, or online, with a free private website for genealogy buffs. Either one offers a way to keep your information and add to it as you find more connections. You will enjoy showing your work to everyone in the family once you have accumulated years of family lineage.
Offline Family History
Use GenoPro (see reference) to record and design your family tree. You must download the software to your computer before you start entering information.
Open the software after you download it and start entering the information that you have. You can enter the names of people and all pertinent information you may have found.
Open up the timeline on the software to see the tree of your family history. If you want to check information for a particular name, you can click on the name and it will show all the information you have collected.
Online Private Family History
Sign up and login to the Geni (see reference). This allows you to enter your family history information, which will remain stored online for you and other family members to see.
Start by entering your name, email address and gender. Click on "Start My Tree" and you will start entering all your relatives.
Share pictures, birthdays and other events in your family history. You can enter all of the personal information you have collected.

- There are other online websites that allow you to enter information and make a family tree, but they are not private. Ancestry.com is free, but everyone can see what you enter.
