How to Get Smooth Skin With Household Products

Salons and drugstores offer dozens of products that promise smoother skin. These treatments may be effective, but you don't need to gamble on a store-bought product to get the soft skin you want. Instead, put together your own skin-smoothing remedy with products from your own kitchen pantry. These DIY mixtures contain natural ingredients, such as baking soda, honey and almonds, that exfoliate skin for pennies per application.

Combine 1/4 of an avocado, 1 tablespoon of honey and 3 tablespoons of cream in a blender. Puree the ingredients until smooth, then apply the mixture to your skin with small, circular motions. Rinse skin off with warm water after an hour. These ingredients hydrate skin for a dewy look. They also help your skin retain moisture.

Stir together 2 tablespoons of plain yogurt, 2 teaspoons of almond meal, 1 teaspoon of regular or Manuka honey and 20 grams of powdered brewer's yeast. Apply the mixture to your face. Wait a few minutes before rinsing. Honey's antibacterial properties disinfect skin, and yogurt contains vitamin B6 to stimulate blood flow.

Combine 3 tablespoons of cream and 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a small bowl. Add 1 cup of white sugar, 1/2 cup of brown sugar and 1/2 cup of finely ground almonds. Mix well, then apply the paste to dry skin. Rinse it off with warm water, then follow up with a splash of cold water. The gritty sugar and almonds are effective exfoliants for your face. Olive oil and cream moisturize and brighten skin.

Combine 4 teaspoons of baking soda with 1 tablespoon of water in a small bowl. Stir well, then let the mixture set for two minutes. Moisten your face with warm water, then smooth the thin paste over your skin. Rinse with warm water after three minutes, then splash a bit of cold water over your face. If you have sensitive skin, only use this solution once every other week. Apply it weekly if you have normal or oily skin. This remedy removes pore-clogging dead skin and helps prevent acne breakouts.

Massage a few drops of rosehip oil into skin in place of your usual moisturizer. Alternatively, add several drops of the oil to bath water for softer skin. If you're acne-prone, you may not want to apply oil to your face. Rosehip oil is high in vitamin A, B and C, essential fatty acids and carotenoids. It softens skin and may help treat dark spots or discoloration.
