What to Look For
High-performance anti-wrinkle beauty products have rapidly sold out in Asia, the USA and UK. Creams rich in vitamins, retinol or peptides have been proven to reduce surface wrinkles within weeks of using the products. Recommended by the British Journal of Dermatology is the UK’s Boots No. 7 Protect and Perfect Intense Beauty Serum, which is rich in peptides, vitamin A and alfalfa. Dr. Apratim Goel, a Mumbai-based dermatologist, stands by Asia’s Pond’s Age Miracle Daily Resurfacing cream, an anti-wrinkle cocktail high in retinol, retinol boosters and alpha hydroxy. In the U.S., Olay’s Professional Pro-X anti-aging line, rich in vitamin B3, has proven itself in numerous clinical studies.
In order for an anti-wrinkle cream, such as Olay’s Professional Pro-X anti-aging to be effective, it should be used in conjunction with the rest of the Olay Professional Pro-X line, according to Doris Day, who is New York University Medical Center's clinical assistant professor of dermatology. And though over the counter anti-aging creams are not as potent as their prescribed counter parts, Day, like other dermatological professionals, warns that some women can experience irritation with products that contain retinol.
Where to Buy
Though Boots is a UK-based company, its products, including the No7 Protect & Perfect Intense Beauty Serum, are distributed in the United States through Target. Pond’s Age Miracle cream can be a bit more difficult to find, but it is available on Amazon.com. Since Olay is a U.S. company, its Professional Pro-x line can be found at many drugstores, but the best deals are available at Walgreens. Due to the high demand for these well-sort-after beauty creams, in might be difficult to find them in stock.
Anti-wrinkle creams can be expensive, but Boots No7 Protect & Perfect Intense Beauty Serum is moderately priced, retailing around $22 to $35. Ponds Age Miracle Daily Resurfacing Cream is comparably priced at $22 to $30, not including shipping and handling. Olay Professional-X Wrinkle Smoothing Cream is only slightly more expensive, with prices ranging from $32 to $47. Prices are as of September 2010.
Anti-wrinkle creams do not produce effects within the same amounts of time. Pond’s Age Miracle product boasts visible effects as soon as seven days, while Boot’s No. 7 and Olay’s Professional Pro X products could take up to four weeks. Olay’s Product is part of an anti-aging line, and therefore is more effective when using all of the products combined—whereas Boots' and Pond’s products can stand alone and provide results.
