You may not think of honey as a beauty product, but the sticky stuff is packed with benefits for your skin. Honey moisturizes and softens skin when applied topically. Honey also has antimicrobial and antibacterial properties, so it helps keep acne breakouts at bay. Mix a dollop of honey with some other natural ingredients, such as lemon juice, to make a luxurious facial cleanser.

Basic Honey Cleansers

Manuka honey has more antibacterial potency than regular types of honey, so it's ideal for cleansing skin. Smooth a dab of undiluted Manuka honey over skin to ward off acne, soothe redness and calm insect bites and burns. It's also helpful for treating skin conditions, such as rosacea and eczema. To make a basic honey cleanser, combine 1 tablespoon of liquid soap, 1/2 cup of glycerin and 1/4 cup of any type of honey. Apply the mixture to your skin, then rinse with lukewarm water.

Honey Cleanser Recipe

Chop a small handful of almonds into small pieces using a knife or food processor. Combine 2 1/2 tablespoons of honey and 1 cup of plain yogurt in a bowl, then stir in the chopped almonds. Mix in 1 teaspoon of lemon juice and 2 tablespoons of chopped fresh mint. Apply the cleanser once a week, then rinse with warm water. In addition to the skin-boosting benefits of honey, the almonds in this recipe serve as an exfoliant and the yogurt softens skin. Lemon juice cuts through oil and also acts as an exfoliating agent. Mint's astringent properties help fight acne.
