The Best Polo Shirt Fabric for Men in Summer Heat

Summer heat and humidity can make you feel sweaty and uncomfortable. Beat the heat and still look fashionable by carefully choosing the types of fabrics you wear. Some are more breathable than others and will wick moisture away to keep you cool, even on the hottest of days.

Linen is ideal in the summer because it is extremely lightweight and breathable. While it can be prone to wrinkling and does require some extra care, a knit version in a polo will wrinkle less. In addition, linen dries quickly and has a loose construction, so if you do begin to perspire, the moisture will be wicked away and any wet spots will dry fairly quickly. Linen is a higher-end fabric, so you will wind up paying more than for polos in other materials. But the comfort that you'll experience as a result will definitely be worth it.

A shirt in a blend of lightweight fabrics can keep you cool in the heat. Viscose, cotton, linen, rayon, bamboo and even lightweight wool blends offer a lightweight and breathable texture on hot summer days.

Performance Fabrics

If you perspire easily, invest in a polo shirt that incorporates performance fabrics. Performance fabrics are based on technologies that are designed to pull moisture away from the body. They also often include hidden ventilation features. Polo shirts made with performance fabrics are great for golfers and other outdoor athletes.

The construction of the fabric affects how you stay comfortable as the heat and humidity rises. The tighter the weave or knit, the heavier the construction will be -- and your perspiration will just sit with nowhere to go. Loosely constructed fabrics allow natural ventilation, because air can freely flow both in and out.
