Purple hair is cute, funky, and shows a lot of personality. Unfortunately, purple dye tends to fade quickly, especially if the base of the color has any red or pink in it. There are a few simple things you can do to ensure that your purple hair doesn't fade and keeps its color longer. Even so, making sure to touch up the purple every four to five weeks will ensure that your hair color stays bright and bold. For best purple results, bleach the section of hair you plan to dye purple beforehand so that the color stands out more and keeps its brilliance longer.
Refrain from washing your hair for the first 48 hours after you have dyed it purple. This will help make sure that the color has time to really settle without being disturbed.
Wash your hair with a shampoo that is specifically formulated to prevent color fading. Use a small amount on the purple and don't over scrub the hair. Never use hot water to wash purple hair. Instead, use water as cool as you can stand it. This makes sure the cuticles on the hair stay closed and the color has less of an opportunity to fade out.
Apply a small amount of color care conditioner to the purple hair and let it set for a few minutes before rinsing out with cool water. The conditioner will help keep the hair moisturized and brighter to help prevent the color from becoming dull or matte.
Wash your hair only every other day to reduce the risk of color fading. Avoid using any hair products that improve volume, as they contain ingrediants that can reduce the brightness in hair color. Make sure to touch up the purple color every four to five weeks.
