Getting shampoo in your eyes can be unpleasant. The burning and itching can cause severe discomfort that will persist until the shampoo is completely flushed out of your eyes. If you find yourself in this position, these are a few steps you can take in order to make certain the shampoo is completely removed.
Lean over at the waist in order to allow gravity to do some of the work. The quicker you begin to get the shampoo out of your eyes, the less likely the irritation will be severe.
Get to a sink as fast as you can and flush your eyes with water from the tap. Remember to wash the eyes from the edge closest to your nose outward in order to avoid moving the shampoo into the corner of your eye.
Pat the area dry with a clean towel. Making sure the area around the eye is clean prevents accidentally moving shampoo residue in the eye later on.
Force yourself to cry. Sometimes the natural lubrication of tears can be more effective at removing irritants to the eyes than anything else.
Apply a saline based solution of eye drops to soothe the pain. These eye drops will actually help heal the eye and allow you to carry on with the rest of your day with minimal discomfort.
