You wear your favorite baseball cap every day. It's been everywhere with you. It's perfectly broken in. Then one day, the plastic sizing band snaps. No need to worry. You can save your old favorite hat by making a simple repair. Since the bands usually break at the ends while staying attached at the fabric inserts, you can easily save your cap by fashioning some Velcro strips to mend the break.

Remove any pieces of broken plastic banding that are not attached to the cap. Clean the strips of plastic banding with soap and water to remove surface oils. This will help the Velcro to attach more securely. Dry the band thoroughly.

Measure each side of the plastic band on the cap. Cut the bottom strip of Velcro to the size of the longer piece of plastic band. Cut the top strip of Velcro to the same length as the shorter piece of plastic band.

Apply a thin layer of glue to the portion of the longer piece of plastic band that faces outward. Peel the adhesive backing off of the bottom strip of Velcro and attach it to the plastic band with the glue.

Apply a thin layer of glue to the portion of the shorter piece of plastic band that faces inward. Peel the adhesive backing off the top Velcro strip and apply it to the side with the glue.

Allow the glue to dry thoroughly before wearing the cap. Place the hat on your head then attach the shorter piece of the plastic band to the longer piece by attaching the two strips of Velcro.
