Coconuts can be a bit difficult to open, but once they are, cleaning them is easy. You will be rewarded with a delicious, sweet juice once you open a fresh coconut and clean it well. Read these easy directions to learn how to do so.
Select a coconut.
Clean whatever strands of husk remain on the coconut’s shell.
Locate the three “eyes,” or spots, on one end of the coconut. Find the soft one, which is the one that stands by itself.
Clean the area around the soft eye with a knife, then dig out the covering. You may be able to dig right into the inside of your coconut, providing it is soft enough and your knife small enough.
Drain the coconut water into a small cup or dish.
Saw the shell in half carefully.
Rinse out the inside of the coconut shell, as well as the edges. You may also want to scrape off the edge of the coconut with a knife, to remove any dust the saw may have created.
Let drain on a clean towel.
Enjoy!
