How Do Watches Work?
Watches supply important functions such as the time of day in hours, minutes and sometimes, seconds. They pretty much function as a very small clock. Many watches provide other information that is beyond time functions such as the date, the day of the week, and some even provide times zone information for several countries. The power source of a watch usually comes from a battery or solar light.
Digital Watch vs. Analog Watch
A digital watch works pretty much the same as any other mechanical watch. However, digital watches utilize an electronic power supply to work. Unlike a mechanical watch, digital watches do not tick like a mechanical timepiece. To keep time, it uses an electronic or digital time method to show the numbers. Instead of displaying the time by using a short-hand and a long-hand dial to display the time, the time is visually represented in actual readable numbers according to the actual time.
An analog watch is a timepiece that uses the short hand and long hand within a circular dial just like a traditional, mechanical clock.
How Do Solar Watches Work?
Solar Watches are entirely powered by a solar panel. Sunlight and other kinds of light are absorbed by a solar panel behind a crystal material. The solar panel converts electrical energy to power the watch and then the watch will store the energy in the rechargeable cell to power itself during the night or in the dark.
How Does an Indiglo Watch Work?
Indiglo watches use high electrical power to energize phosphor atoms that produce light. The way this works is through electroluminescent ability which is a lot more capable to produce energy because it converts the electricity directly to light. Most Indiglo watches have a rounded short and long-hand dial for telling time and a small 1.5-volt battery.
Some Other Beneficial Uses of Watches
Since the watch was created, many computerized wristwatches have been used for many other purposes. Some of the other beneficial uses include uses as calculators, barometers, altimeters, video games, digital cameras, key drives, GPS receivers and cellular phones. In the early 1980s, there were even some watches that were made with a television inside of them and several companies have attempted to develop computer wristwatches.
