How to Comb Out a Play Wig

Your child's play wig has seen its share of epic living-room performances and is beginning to look worse for the wear. Synthetic wig's hair is manufactured from polyester, silicone and a variety of other plastics, making them generally more durable than human hair. Much like your child's hair, synthetic play wigs are prone to tangling and knots. Properly remove the knots and snarls from your child's play wigs to prevent damage and ensure the show goes on.

Step 1

Drape the wig over a wig stand. Separate the hair into 1-inch sections and secure each with a plastic clip. If necessary, gently pull apart larger tangles to create the sections.

Step 2

Grasp the first section and pull out the plastic clip. Start near the wig's front to simplify the chore. Cover the section with a thin layer of hair detangler before working through any larger tangles with your fingers.

Step 3

Work through the section with a wide-toothed comb. Start at the roots and slowly run the wide-toothed comb until all tangles are removed. Grasping the section near the roots while working through the tangles helps eliminate stress on the wig's cap.

Step 4

Continue working through each section with your fingers first before removing any tangles with a wide-toothed comb. Covering each section with detangler also helps removing tangles less of a chore.

Step 5

Brush through the hair a final time with the wide-toothed comb once all the plastic clips are removed. Store the play wig on a stand to prevent future tangles.
