Athletic cups, hard plastic inserts that go inside the pouch of a jock strap, protect the penis and testicles from impact during sports. After a sweaty workout, clean your athletic cup to prevent bacteria and fungal buildup that can lead to infection. Fungi known as dermatophytes, which live on dead skin and hair tissues, can lead to jock itch if allowed to build up inside an athletic cup. Washing your cup will help keep you clean and itch-free.
Hand Washing
Fill a sink with enough hot water to cover the athletic cup.
Add enough laundry detergent or antibacterial soap to make suds.
Place the cup in the hot water and allow it to soak until the water cools.
Scrub the cup with a fresh sponge or dishcloth and rinse with running water.
Allow the cup to air dry.
